Institute of Chemistry
The first Laboratory of Chemistry was opened in St. Petersburg University in 1748 by the professor M.V. Lomonosov. Since the second part of the XIX century the education in the field of chemistry at the University has met the high European standards; outstanding scientists of world reputation such as D.I. Mendeleev, A.M. Butlerov, A.E. Favorsky and others taught chemistry. In 1894 at the University the New Laboratory of Chemistry was opened, then it was a well-equipped educational-scientific institute. In 1915 the Special Chemical Department was established, which was transformed into the Faculty of Chemistry in 1929. Scientific discoveries and achievements of the chemists of the University have become the history of the world and national science and technology.
